safari 3 on windows::06.13.2007+16:56

I recently downloaded and installed the public beta of Safari 3 for Windows. Below are my feelings about it. Please remember that a number of these are matters of taste, and as such, comments telling me that I am wrong about those points will be ignored/deleted/etc… Read on for the full post.

I’ve added in a feature whereby comments now need to be approved before they appear below a post. This makes more work for me, but it’s not much more, and it’s there to prevent spam and stupid people. There is, however, an auto-approval feature for trusted users. So, if you’d like to be put on this list, post a comment with the e-mail addresses that you want to have added. Also notice the new e-mail field in the comment form.

The internet in my house is is finally fixed. Apparently, besides the central server going out, the amplifier in my house happened to break in the storm. There was a very close lightning strike that night, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that is why it broke.

After watching the Starcraft 2 demo (available on their site), it has become apparent to me that with this iteration, the series has not so much taken a step forward as it has taken a step to the side. In terms of graphics and the engine itself, the game has become much nicer especially since it’s now 3D. However, in terms of gameplay and mechanics, it doesn’t appear to be going forward much, if at all. Of course, there are new units that will satisfy strategists for at least a little while, but in terms of innovation and reinvention this game doesn’t appear to do much. Of course, I have not played the game, but from the way in which the demo video appears to focus on the engine improvements and technology, it seems that making this game something new and wonderful in the way that Resident Evil 4 did for its series, has taken a back seat.

Oh well, perhaps next time.

annoyances::05.21.2007+09:10

This is just a quick post to inform the minuscule group of people that actually read this that until further notice, I have no internet at home. Last Wednesday there was a pretty severe thunderstorm and the central servers for Charter Communications in Western Mass lost power. Why this means that I don’t get internet for six days and counting is beyond me. It’s a pretty terrible excuse and rather evident of some sort of fuck-up in terms of the network setup. So yeah, if you want to talk to me after 4:00 pm on weekdays, you’re going to need to call my cellphone (really, I don’t mind).
