It was about this time last year that I started the web-based multi-user notepad project. Only a few days after I started the project, I found out that Google had gone and made their own web notepad, and it even had a Firefox extension. Slightly dismayed, I trudged on and in the span of about a week, it was done. It wasn’t the greatest thing in the world, but it worked, and it was powerful. I had originally wanted to just make the project a database front-end where i could just dump text. However, I decided a few days before I began that I should make it multi-user and add in access control lists. Through this project, I started to write complex MySQL queries, and I just had an enjoyable time. I still like the idea of having access control lists, and I’d love for that kind of functionality (or at least multi-level passwords) in a blog. I ended up ditching the notepad for Tomboy because apps on one’s computer are so much more convenient than web apps for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, I don’t have a copy of the source for the final version (this site still has a copy of the not so final one), so I apologize to anyone who is saddened by this.
